Affinity x Canva x USC:

Use the power of design as a force for a better community.

Rethink how parking system works at USC, and redesign it together.

About the issue

For many students, the day doesn’t start in the classroom — it starts in a parking lot. Circling, waiting, and searching for a space has become part of the routine.

Recent reports have highlighted the scale of this issue: more than 60% of students struggle to find parking at least once a week, and some experience it daily. With more permits issued than available spaces, what should be a simple task has become a source of stress, lost time, and frustration across the campus community.

As creative design brands, Affinity and Canva,we believe that challenges like these are not just inconveniences. They are design opportunities.

When we saw how deeply this issue affects students, we partnered with the USC community to explore a new approach:

What if the people who experience the system every day could help redesign it?

About Affinity x Canva

At Affinity and Canva, we believe that great design has the power to change the way people experience the world. From small everyday moments to larger community systems. Whether it’s making information easier to understand, improving accessibility, or helping people navigate their environments more effectively, design is not just about aesthetics; it is about impact.

We also believe that design should not be limited to professionals. The people who experience a system every day often have the most valuable insights into how it can be improved. By making design tools more accessible, we empower individuals to turn their ideas into real, tangible solutions that can benefit their communities.

When we look at challenges like the USC parking experience, we don’t just see a logistical issue: we see an opportunity for design to create meaningful change. By inviting students to participate in the redesign process, we aim to transform everyday frustrations into collaborative, creative solutions that improve how the community moves, interacts, and lives.
